Università degli Studi di Milano (UMIL http://www.unimi.it), established in 1924, is one of the largest Italian public teaching and research-intensive universities, the only Italian among the 21 members of LERU. EU programs represent a major source of funding.
UMIL participates with the Department of Computer Science (DI, http://www.di.unimi.it) and with the Department of Economics, Management, and Quantitative Methods (DEMM, http://eng.demm.unimi.it/ecm/home).
The DI is devoted to both theoretical and applied research in ICT. DI is the largest computer science department in Italy. It has a staff of more than 80 researchers and 40 assistants. DI has participated in many projects financed by the EC (17 H2020 projects), by national Institutions as well as by industry.
The DEMM, one of the top-rated Italian departments of economics, management and related studies according to a number of international rankings of scientific productivity. DEMM offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and research degrees in both Italian and English. Among others, DEMM offers one of the most attractive international masters in management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, with more than 500 applications each year. In 2018 DEMM was one of the Excellence Department awarded by the Italian Ministry of Education of a large competitive fund for the creation of the Center of Excellence in Economics and Data Science (CEEDS).
